2 books of note for 2009 are Glimmer by Warren Berger with ideas from Bruce Mau :: Looking towards transformational design or the multiple design and problem solving issues. Review at Core77 by Robert Blinn : About the Book : Glimmersite
+ Al Gore's latest book OurChoice ; a plan to solve the climate crisis
Beyond "An Inconvenient Truth" and 30 global "solution summits" is a very readable summary of the issues, their relative importance plus many paths to design solutions. Perhaps the slowing population growth figures are overly optimistic but otherwise a focus on CO2 emissions reduction and alternate energy development shows many ideas are way better than denial. ourchoicethebook.com ::

SRD Change 09 pic
Nov 10-11 :: Powering Australia :: Unprecedented capital expenditure in energy is planned to meet demand, replace, inefficient assets and deliver with efforts to reduce the growth of CO2-e emissions. Govt. input will be critical. An important development over the next 20 years may be the provision of "negawatts" not "megawatts" - that is, a strong focus on end-use energy efficiency. Major developments will be political - imposing power demand / supply change by mandating levels of CO2 emissions allowed + carbon pricing, new technology + by renewable energy targets.
